drool

bananas foster fritters. orange creamsicle tart. nutella scones. tomato soup cupcakes with mascarpone frosting. those are just a few of the recipes i flipped out over while flipping through baked explorations at the book store last night.

so i bought it. an i went to bed thinking about the creamsicle tart. i'm betting that'll be the first thing i make from it.

together, we make a pretty bad ass robot

the mister and i, we make a pretty great team. i'm not sure how but we've managed to (almost) sell our house (fingers crossed), run a few businesses, sleep in a bit, and watch at least 2 hours of supernatural everyday. in the midst of all of that, we've opened a new etsy shop. and i'm pretty excited.

every time shawn works with the laser cutter, he comes up with ideas for more things we could laser cut. sometimes they're crazy, sometimes they're unequivocally awesome. like the idea to laser cut old records. and then i had the idea for the open book. it seemed to me to be a perfect marraige - his extreme love of music, my book lust. so, shampton industries was born.

so we started to have more ideas for shapes we like. and more time was spent at the laser cutter. and now, more ideas. so, be on the lookout.

like a dream(sicle)

i said it was going to be the first thing i made from baked explorations. it had to be. there's almost nothing i love more than orange and vanilla.

the recipe was fun. making the curd filling with orange soda was a little bizarre. so bubbly. so so bubbly. and the crust didn't come out the first time so i had to remake it. but i wasn't happy with the crust while i was making it so that was fine. the recipe calls for orange zest in the crust. between that, the curd filling and the orange whipped cream - too much orange. so i thought it would be nifty to put a vanilla bean in my normal crust recipe. um, yeah. good plan.

shawn actually shouted out while serving it. i asked what was wrong and he said "tartgasm." nice.

hassenpfeffer incorporated

today, the lovely and clever donovan and i journeyed to milwaukee. we went to art vs. craft to visit nancy and andy (and to meet circa peanut, oliver!)

we went to comet cafe for lunch and stopped at the mars cheese castle and woodman's for beer on the way home. donovan drank a dang! soda. and i bought more beer than i've EVER bought before.

you see, wisconsin is a magical land of beer and cheese. they have beer that you cannot get in chicago. for instance, anything brewed by new glarus. spotted cow is a favorite here at casa shampton and we figured we should stock up since another quick trip to wisconsin is unlikely before we leave for portland in january. so i did.
