today

we slept in a bit today. that was a nice start to a day filled with the smell of freshly cut grass, yoyos, photos, soup and work around the house. many things were checked off the list. i can go to bed with my book guilt-free.

and it was good.

so, a week happened. you know, like they do. i posted here on monday and then tuesday happened. wednesday after that. before you know it, here we are. its sunday again and i'm thinking about what i'm going to post for music monday, what my workload looks like and hoping that this week is a little less crazy than last week.

i don't know if it was tax day or some new projects we're both working on or what, but we had an off week.

yeah, there won't be a saturday stats post for this week because i didn't keep track of anything i did all week. i ate like crap, i barely exercised, i worked my ass off. come friday i realized i hadn't blogged all week. i'll do it tomorrow, i thought.

saturday we woke up to bright blue skies and warmish air. so, we:

  • went to the farmers' market
  • grabbed a beer and salad at deschutes
  • went to 360 records and jackpot for record store day
  • wandered a bit at cargoh
  • met up with emily and her small people at the mellow mushroom
  • stopped by the twilight rummage sale

it was a really good, really long day. by the time i sat down to watch a movie and get some work done, i didn't really feel like working. so, i didn't. i'd be lying if i told you i didn't have to argue with myself a bit. a few yoyos when i'd taken the WHOLE DAY OFF were no big deal. hardly like work... one short blog post and maybe pull a few things for bracelets, easy peasy... and on and on. in the end, i went with the voice reminding me that it was 9:00 on a saturday night and that was allowed to take the whole day and night off if i wanted. so, i did.

my current yum

i recently saw a recipe for pesto roasted green beans served with a poached egg somewhere and the idea stuck. it sounded delicious but despite really wanting to make it, it just wasn't happening. but then i saw asparagus and fiddleheads at the market and had new thoughts. sure, green beans are tasty but fiddleheads and asparagus are better. i decided to make more of a salad of it since i was now working with more expensive ingredients (the fiddleheads were $19 a pound!) this was a good plan on my part and its currently the only food i want to eat.

  • 1 lb mix of fiddleheads (ends trimmed) and fresh asparagus (ends trimmed) chopped into 1-2" pieces (i think i had 3/4 lb of asparagus and 1/4 lb of the fiddleheads the first time and all asparagus the second and third times. so,you could use all asparagus if you don't like fiddleheads or if you can't get them where you are!)
  • 1/4 cup pesto
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • salad greens of your choosing (we use herb mix)
  • your choice of salad dressing (we use a honey mustard vinaigrette)
  • chopped hazelnuts (or pistachios or pecans or pine nuts or... you get the idea)
  • 2 poached eggs
  • kosher salt
  • black pepper

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Mix pesto and olive oil and toss with asparagus on a baking sheet.
  • Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Roast in a preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until done to your liking.
  • Poach the eggs.
  • Place a couple of handfuls of greens and the rest of the ingredients on plates, drizzling with dressing and sprinkling with nuts, salt & pepper.
  • Dig in and YUM.

complainy

there will be no picture today. because of reasons.

its the week i miss lucy the most.

the weather has been crazy, hailing one minute and sunny the next. it doesn't really matter because we're both really busy getting ready for crafty wonderland and bazaar bizarre.

we're both not feeling great. i'm migrainey, which could be because of the wonky ass weather, and its my pms week. shawn's back is bothering him. bothering him is the nice way of saying he's in excruciating pain right now. our afflictions are making us cranky -  yelling at each other over hazelnut milk cranky.

monkey is pissed because we're trying to train her to not bark at every single person who passes in front of the house. she finds it incrediby frustrating and pretty much hates me for denying her fun. so, the dog is giving me the cold shoulder. and sighing heavily - A LOT.

did i mention the pms? and the part where this week is the anniversary of my grandma's death? yes i did?

ok. i'll shut up now.

and maybe post one pretty picture. for reasons.

friday friends

kateri, oh kateri. there's not much i can say about her that i haven't already said. so instead i'll present you with:

exhibit a.

a recent text conversation between kateri & i. she was at a crappy bar to see shawn's old band, the daytonics, play a show while shawn was in chicago.

exhibit b.

a photo booth strip shawn handed me when he arrived home in portland.

that's all the proof you need. she's awesome.
