hello etsy

i spent yesterday at hello etsy pdx. it was fantastic. it was great spending the day with bettie and katie, and seeing diane, kirsten and plenty of other people i only get to see every once in awhile. plus, i walked away feeling really inspired.

my favorite session was "embracing the ugly side of your business" with kim werker. it was amazing. here's the description:

"Taking a good hard look at failure can be a very healthy part of succeeding in creative business. It’s scary, yes. It’s uncomfortable, yes. But it can also be liberating, constructive and valuable to the entire process of fleshing out an idea and translating it into a business plan. Learn how NOT avoiding the unsavory bits can make you happy and make your business thrive."

we talked about road blocks, our fears and what would happen if we woke up tomorrow and those fears were just gone. for me, i am afraid of both success and failure. success because OHMYGOD WHAT WILL HAPPEN? and failure because OHMYGOD WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

(via beanforest)

yeah, i know. crazy. i get it. but the funny thing is that although its a little insane, i was far from the only one with these feelings. so, yes, i'm a little nuts but i'm definitely not alone. it was on my mind throughout the rest of the day and obviously still is.

(this is where i need to acknowldge that some people would say i'm already successful. on my good days, i agree with them. like this weekend when i reached the 2500 sales mark on etsy. its amazing. i'm so thankful to all of my customers and appreciative for the chance to live this life and make pretty things. on my bad days, i fear that i'm already failing and am just too dumb to realize it. I KNOW. I KNOW, OK? what can i tell you? the button above describes me perfectly.)

i also LOVED was betsy & will of betsy & iya's: bloom where you're planted session. it was a perfect end to the day. they are incredibly likeable and their story is totally inspirational. i walked out feeling like, huh, why am i afraid of success? its awesome (and can be scary) but is totally beautiful too.  (just like my betsy & iya earrings i bought at renegade craft austin, the first time we met betsy and will.)

keep on sewin'

fall snuck up on us a little. its not like we didn't know it was coming but one day we were going to the movies to escape the heat and the next day we were digging our hoodies out of the back of our closets. fall also means holiday show season and although the schedule is still a little up in the air, one thing is clear, we're going to be busy.

the conservatory of flowers, golden gate park

while shawn took a yoga class with his friend joe, i spent the morning at the conservatory of flowers. i was excited to learn that the wicked plants exhibit was there and did NOT want to miss it. i'm so glad i went. i was greeted by a giant dahlia garden, which was a quiet riot of color. quiet except for the shutters of many, many cameras.

my head was spinning before i even walked inside. once i was inside, i couldn't have been happier.

to say i was happy would actually be an understatement. i was ecstatic. i picked up shawn after yoga and dragged him back there. i was drunk on photosynthesis. and ideas. SO MANY IDEAS. like this one.

crush month - day 27

at the show today an older woman walked up to my table purposefully, looked me straight in the eye and said "i love yoyos, too." it was awesome. she asked me about my necklaces and where i learned to make yoyos AND did i know about the clover yoyo makers? yes, yes i do. they're my constant companions. she told me about the yoyo vest she's making herself and how looking at my yoyos was making her kick herself for not thinking to use silk. seriously, i cannot stress how awesome this conversation was. we totally geeked out about YOYOs.

seriously. yoyos. i've made thousands of them yet i never tire of them. i love taking a new fabric, cutting out the circle and stitching it up - i'm almost always a little surprised by how the fabric looks in yoyo form. i love making them out of silk - i think it makes them look so modern. i'm always thinking about new things i can make with them. i dream about them. i just love them.

say cheese

these are a couple of my favorite pictures from this afternoon's photo session with emily and her daughter, maddie. they were both lovely while i turned their heads and mussed their hair for a couple of hours. emily's son andrew was also incredibly sweet and mostly patient. he is after all six.

i also love these pictures! silly faces and texting: behind the scenes at cookoorikoo...

today was a champ

i had a great day. seriously great. it started off a little rocky and at a critical moment the postman arrived with packages. gifts from friends, including a pair of radish earrings from kateri. she's known how much i adored the character luna lovegood and her wacky radish earrings. so, she made me a pair. i may wear them everday, possibly forever.

i've also finished all but one summer wedding order - which feels great. the remaining one is in progress and is SO MUCH FUN. i can't wait to post pictures. for now though, here's the one i finished up today. they are silk chiffon flowers for the bridesmaids hair - to match their shoes. i sent pictures to the bride, my friend and massage therapist ellee and she LOVES THEM. i think its going to look great!

a few other things about today:

i watched twin peaks while i worked all day. its still excellently weird.

we're doing a cleanse. we are currently only eating fruits and veggies. i'm not really hungry but really want cheese. i've also been feeling really great though.

i ended the day catching up on letters. as much as i love my laptop, it was so much more satisfying than an evening spent playing on the internet.

and now, i'm going to grab my book and crawl into bed. night night y'all!
