things i love tuesday

i've been busy busy making things for crafty wonderland. i've made piles of piles of yoyos. i have to say i love making them. i love the color combinations. i love the fabrics i've been using. yeah, i may be dreaming about making them but there are most definitely worse things.

flashback friday

this is my FAVORITE picture of myself. those are my grandpa's glasses and all the best pictures of me feature something i'm wearing of my grandpa's - his rainboots, his mac truck ski cap... and usually i'm not wearing pants. i was not a fan of pants. wait, i'm still not. also, i love that i'm eating what appears to be a giant chunk of bread. and my hair is a mess. i was awesome.

things i love tuesday

grandma. its been 3 years and i'm missing her as much today as i did a week after she died. she was so special. really. funny and flirty and almost always happy. i want to tell her about our new house and about the birds in our yard. i want her to tell me all about what happened on meerkat manor. oh lucy, i love you.

perfection

today was a perfect day. truly. it was warm, the sky was bright blue and it was so sunny. any clouds in the sky were of the puffy, white variety not of the it'll rain on you at a moment's notice variety.* it was glorious.

i went for a quick walk to the twilight rummage sale with this lady. love. her. bought some treasures.

shawn & i went for a stroll at the farmers' market. bought some flowers, veggies, meat for dinner and more rhubarb. took some pictures.

spent the rest of the evening sewing with the windows and doors open. monkey spent a great deal of time sitting on the porch. i like to think she was thinking about what a lucky dog she is.

the little things sometimes mean so much

i've been sick for about ten days. a lot has happened and very little at the same time.

i went to the doctor and he told me a few helpful things about living in portland. (vitamin d and daily walks are my new best friends.) friends checked in on me.

i watched some movies on demand. some not so good (super) and amazing (buried) and lots of bad tv.

the tree in front of our house has gone wild with spring fever. everyday i sit and sew by the window and feel lucky that i get to look at it. yeah, i'm crazy about this tree.

and then one night i was up late watching tv and i got up to go to bed. i turned off the porch light and when i glanced outside i saw someone riding down the street on a christmas light wrapped bicycle, all lit up. it made me completely happy and i realized how much i love it here. when i told shawn about it he said, "we really do belong there, don't we?" yes, yes we do.

yesterday

it was a spectacularly beautiful day. it was warmer than it had been and so so sunny. it was also been a weird day. i got up to find some of my twitter friends heaping compliments on me, all thanks to emily. so, a really nice way to start the day. then we received some unexpected news (everyone's ok - it was business related. it was a small setback which we are now looking at as a great opportunity.) i had a weird and unpleasant encounter with someone on the internet. i sold some stuff. and the twitter friend love continued throughout.

at some point i dragged a bunch of stuff outside and shot pictures around my yard to see what else i could do. the mossy pedestal had worked out so well. spending a couple of hours in the sunshine, camera in hand, cleared my head completely. by the time i was finished, i had forgotten the unpleasantness, was coming up with some really great ideas for shampton industries for the summer, and was feeling endlessly thankful to emily & company for their kindness.

i really am a lucky, lucky girl.

mini-break

before kateri arrived this week i'd been working on multiple lengthy to-do lists. things around the house, bill-paying, letter-writing, making things, baking cupcakes... i checked everything off the list so that once she arrived i could just hang out and be with her. i'm so glad i did. i hadn't realized just how much i missed her until she was here.

we did all the things we usually would do in chicago - antique shopping, bad tv, cocktails... and then yesterday we did something we'd never be able to do in chicago.

we drove to hood river for lunch at double mountain brewery and then drove back, stopping at the waterfalls along route 30, including multnomah falls. it was magic, a perfect end to a lovely visit.
